Kiwanis Club of Richmond Lighted Snowmen Project

The Kiwanis Club of Richmond partnered with the Richmond Teen Center to assist students, in a craft session, to produce lighted mason jar snowmen. There were 24 teen-age students that participated in this project.

The leaders of this project were Georgia Parks, the director of the Richmond Teen Center, and four members of the Kiwanis Club of Richmond.

The Kiwanians present were, Phillis Adams, Beth Thompson, and Joan and Glen Kleine. Mrs. Kleine is the president of the Kiwanis Club of Richmond.

At the conclusion of the craft session Ms. Parks provided a dinner for the students.



Brandon Sears Given 2017 Agriculture Award by Richmond Kiwanians

Brandon Sears was named the 2017 recipient of the Kiwanis Club of Richmond sponsored Jack Taylor Award for Agriculture Education at the annual Farm-City Banquet at the Extension Center on Monday evening. Pictured here is Joan Kleine, the 2017-18 president of the local Kiwanis club.

Sears, who has served as the Madison County Agriculture Agent for the past eleven years, was presented the award based on his exceptional work in informing the community about the significant contributions of agriculture to the life and economy of Madison County.

Sears serves as a writer of a weekly article for the Richmond Register and he also serves as an editor of the monthly publication Plowing Ahead which is distributed to 1140 homes.

He teaches and organizes courses in Beef Quality Assurance, Pesticide Safety, the Master Cattlemen Course, the Master Grazer Course, the Welding School for farmers, and the Beginning Beef Program. He also organizes On Farm Demonstrations and workshops and provides agricultural instruction at the 4-H Farm Days and the 4-H Environmental Field Days.

The Jack Taylor Award for Agriculture Education has been given in the past to high school, college and university agriculture teachers and administrators as well as extension leaders who devote a significant part of their life teaching about agriculture. This award was named for Jack Taylor, a member of Kiwanis for more than 50 years who served as a county agriculture agent and as a farm manager both at Berea College and at the EKU Stateland Farm.
