Kiwanians Prepare House for Sale

The Kiwanis Club of Richmond invested in their second house of the year as a fundraiser for the club. This house sits on a two acre lot, is fenced and has a garage. Kiwanians have been working to fix up this property for the past month. Jack Bisping, a local contractor and retired Army Colonel, has been the Kiwanian who has devoted the greatest amount of time to reconditioning the property, The following photos were taken at the latest Kiwanis work party on Saturday, July 7.

Jack Bisping, (left photo) is seen as he finished cutting the two acre lot. Ray DeSloover, has put in countless hours hauling away trash, trimming trees and bushes and spraying. Ray, the owner of Century 21 in Richmond has been heavily involved in the selection of Kiwanis property investments, purchases, reconditioning, and closings after sale.

Ben McPherson (left) and David Harkleroad (right) repaired the drywall and repainted the interior of the home; the home has three bedrooms, a kitchen and living room. Harkleroad is the president of the Kiwanis Club of Richmond and McPherson is a longtime member of the club.
Three Students are Recipients of Richmond Kiwanis Scholarships

Three students are recipients of $500 Richmond Kiwanis Scholarships. Those receiving scholarships are (l. to r.) Cory Kays, a senior at Madison Central High School who will attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology majoring in Areo/Astro Engineering; Kate Wimberly, a senior at Model Laboratory School who will become a biology major at the University of Kentucky; and Kathryn Engle, a senior at Model Laboratory School who will attend Eastern Kentucky University. Kays and Wimberly were selected as outstanding students at high schools located in Richmond. Engle is the George Brown Scholarship recipient for her outstanding leadership in the Model School Key Club, one of the clubs sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Richmond.

Each of the scholarship recipients gave a brief talk describing their high school academic and extra curricular activities and indicated their plans for the future.

Dr. Kim A. Naugle (right), Associate Dean of the College of Education at Eastern Kentucky University and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Richmond Scholarship Committee, joined the group following their presentation.
